To calculate expected value, you multiply each outcome by its probability, then take the sum. 0 * 5/8 = 0. 1 * 2/8 = 2/8. 2 * 1/8 = 2/8. 2/8 + 2/8 = 4/8 better known as 1/2. So on average, each difficulty die will add 1 failure to the outcome of the roll.

Storypath (Scion, Trinty, etc) and 7th Sea 2E come immediately to mind. Aug 9, 2014 · Imagine a game where the themes are light and dark, playing a Star Wars type game, and a player's strength drops to a negative modifier, that means that their strength now is representative of the darkside, and while the dice (or the force in this case) may choose to use that strength for the light side of the force, the darkside still tugs at it.
